


Throughout the past 5 years the Vision-X Dubai conference has gained a reputation of being one of the strong ophthalmology meetings in Refractive Surgery in the GCC, attracting ophthalmologists and eye care providers from around the region.
This year, Emirates Medical Association Ophthalmic Society is introducing updated topics in cornea and refractive Surgery including Presby-Lasik using F-CAT technology and management of advanced cases of ocular trauma, such as lens surgery and cornea repair following trauma.
The organizing committee has also added a Video Symposium to the 2010 program that will demonstrate intraoperative challenges in complex anterior segment surgeries.
Vision-X Dubai proudly present Dr. M. Alaa El Danasoury, president of the International Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. The International Society of Refractive Surgery of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (ISRS/AAO) has honored Dr. M. Alaa El-Danasoury with Kritzinger Award which is given to an individual who embodies the clinical, educational and investigative qualities of the late Dr. Micheal Kritzinger. Dr. Alaa is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and is also the Chair of the Scientific Committee of the Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology (MEACO). He was among the very first refractive surgeons to perform LASIK operations worldwide and the first to perform Phakic IOLs in the Middle East.
Dr. Alaa El-Danasoury, is the President of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), Chairman of the Scientific Program Committee of the Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology (MEACO) and the Medical Director and Chief of the Refractive Surgery Units, Magrabi Eye & Ear Hospitals in the Middle East. He completed his studies at the school of medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo and later obtained a Masters Degree in Ophthalmology. In 1994, he passed the necessary examinations at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, and is a certified Fellow. Dr El-Danasoury had a fellowship in Cornea & Refractive Surgery from Emory University School under George O. Waring III. Dr El-Danasoury has received many prestigious awards including the 2009 Kritzinger Memorial Award.
Mohamed Shafik, MD., PhD is currently a Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Alexandria, Egypt. Dr Mohamed Shafik's qualifications include a MBBCh. (1988), University of Alexandria; MSc in Ophthalmology, University of Alexandria; and a Doctorate degree in Ophthalmology, University of Complutense, Spain. His achievements include: Private Practice – Founder of Laser Vision Center, Alexandria; Founder of Horus Vision Correction Center, Alex; and Founder of International LASIK Center, Lybia. He is also a member in all international and regional refractive societies.
